Connect Your Mac To Your TV

Consider this something every man should know how to do. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there about how to connect your Mac to your tv, but if you get the right instruction, it’s actually pretty easy. The above video is the best we’ve found. The products you need are all available on Amazon for under $30; mini-VGA to VGA display adapter, VGA monitor cable and stereo cable.

UPDATE: Actually if you’ve got an Intel Mac and a TV with an HDMI connection (you probably do), then Mini-DVI to DVI and DVI to HDMI offer a better picture. You’ll still need the same sound adapter and the downside here is that you’ve probably already got your cable or satellite hooked up to your TV’s one HDMI input.

Go Ahead, Pee In The Shower

A PSA from Brazil finally justifies peeing in the shower: it’s to save water! So tell your girlfriend you only do it because you care about the environment.

Three Sheets: This Show Is Not A Drinking Game

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Even though I’m loving the transition to digital broadcasting, getting rid of your cable television has its drawbacks (especially since it’s shark week). But one of the advantages is that it forces you discover new shows, if only because they’re available free on-line. The best I’ve found in a long time is Three Sheets with Zane Lamprey. The premise is simple: Zane travels to a different destination for each show and spends 30 minutes exploring the drinking culture of that location; mostly by getting drunk. Simple enough. I’ve posted the Thailand episode above (I’m partial to Chang), but you can explore your favorite places to drink via the three seasons that are currently available on Hulu.

What really impresses me about this show is how much could go wrong, but doesn’t. Continue reading

Aziz Ansari (and Raaaaaaaandy) Stand-Up

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Aziz Ansari is apparently a funny dude. I’ve never actually seen an episode of Human Giant, but the Will Arnett and Olsen twins sex tape skit is pretty legendary. The above video is from a series of viral videos that Ansari did to promote Judd Apatow’s new movie “Funny People”. I can’t say that I’m a big fan of stand-up comedy, but Raaaaaaaandy’s shit kills. The documentary has three parts, but it gets pretty repetitive after part one. Instead of watching parts two and three, head over to laughyourdickoff.com and watch the videos of Raaaaaaaandy’s stand-up routine that didn’t make the documentary. That shit is louder than your face!

Andy Samberg/ SNL Digital Shorts

Vodpod videos no longer available.

We haven’t seen Saturday Night Live in some time and we doubt we could make it through an entire episode, but we found ourselves watching a few clips on Hulu recently. Hulu was, of course, the destination for Tina Fey clips during the election, but we were pleasantly surprised by Any Samberg’s SNL Digital Shorts. We’re all familiar with Dick in the Box, but dude seems to be pretty consistently turning out funny content. In addition to the above clip, make sure to check out Lazy Sunday and Ras Trent (stick around for the pay-off when Ras Trent walks past some black Rastafarians). Could this dude save Saturday Night Live? It’s a herculean task, to say the least, but we’re enjoying watching Samberg try. Just don’t make another Hot Rod movie.

Oh yeah, Doogie Howser Theme is pretty good too.

Save On Your Cable Bill

We decided yesterday to cancel our cable for a while; maybe permanently. It is a recession after all, and we figured that between hulu, justin.tv and Mad Men on iTunes we pretty much had our bases covered. As we were on the phone with Time Warner customer service, we came to a realization that we probably should have figured out a long time ago. As soon as you use the word cancel, you’ll get transferred to a new customer service agent. This agent’s job is to retain your business and their only tool is discounts. Even if you’re thrilled with your cable provider, call today and tell them you want to cancel. No need to credit Radix Man when you brag about how smart you are for saving money on your cable bill.
